Our community members get to decorate and set up public chat rooms that the rest of the community can join and enjoy. The rooms are used to socialize in 3D with new and old friends. These rooms may be visited by anyone depending on the Room Access controls the room owner has set up.
Log into IMVU's 3D Chat client and go to the Chat Rooms feature to start creating your own chat room. The "Manage" tab gives you access to creation and management of your rooms. The room creation process will provide tips at every step of the process.
IMVU's exclusive VIP club members can create up to 10 chat rooms. Users may also buy individual Chat Room Slots to set up public rooms.
Public (Listed): The room is visible to everyone, and anyone can join. The room is searchable and appears in all relevant lists. The Room Access Controls (see below) will still apply.
Open (Unlisted): The room is not visible in any list and is not searchable. A Room URL or an invite from within the room is needed to join.
Closed: The room is neither visible and cannot be joined (even by the owner).
Various ways to control access to your room are available depending on your own account status (VIP, AP, Age verified etc). VIPs can set their rooms so that only their friends or other VIPs can enter their room. AP members can make their room accessible to only other AP holders. Age-verified members can allow only other age-verified adults to join the room. If you have your name registered then you can set your room to be available to those who are not "guests".
If you are a VIP member, you can create up to 10 rooms. If your VIP subscription is no longer active then you will no longer have access to edit/manage the rooms you created. Please renew your VIP membership to regain access to these rooms.
Room moderators are optional. You will be prompted to assign room moderators to your room during the room creation step. To assign one or moderators to an existing room that you own, simply click on "Edit" and add the room moderator's avatar name in the appropriate field. You can add multiple moderators for a room.
You must be the room's owner or a room moderator to boot someone from a room. In the IMVU Client, right-click on the avatar or click on the "i" icon for the avatar you wish to boot. From the avatar card, click on the "Safety" link and choose the Boot option from the safety menu. Booting will block that avatar from joining the room for 20 minutes.
Anyone on the room owner's blocked users list will be prevented from entering your room.
You can report a room, a specific user or a chat conversation if they do not meet IMVU's policies.
To report a user, right-click on their avatar or click on the "i" icon for the avatar you wish to report. From the avatar card, click on the "Safety" link and choose the appropriate option from the safety menu.
To report a Chat Room, open that room's information page (clicking on the blue "i" icon will do so) and click on the Safety link to choose the appropriate option from the safety menu.
To report a chat conversation, click on the Safety icon next to the person's name in the text chat box and then select the appropriate reporting option.
IMVU has tested a new section to the Chat Rooms feature called "Themed Rooms". Themed Rooms features a few select rooms that showcase variety of ways users can enjoy IMVU. The rooms are selected by IMVU.
If you would like your room to be listed in that section, you can submit it for IMVU's review. Go to the room that you wish to submit and then click on the "submit" option from the room tools in the upper left corner. Follow the steps to select a theme for the room, take a high-resolution photo and then submit for review. You will be notified if yours is selected. You can submit up to 3 rooms per week. Your account has to be older than 30 days in order to submit your room.
A themed room must be GA-appropriate, easy to navigate, well decorated, and showcase IMVU at its best. It should be public and accessible to everyone.
You may not be able to submit a room for Themed Rooms section if:
A room may be removed from being listed for any of the following reasons:
If your room is no longer listed, you can resubmit it for review after making appropriate changes.
